If you are a seller, you can lessen the chance of being duped by a recent e-mail scam originating overseas by taking these steps:

Do not accept a check for more than the agreed-to amount of the sale. The seller is typically asked to return the "extra" amount.

Do not ship anything until your bank assures you that the check is valid even if it is a cashiers check and it clears the bank.

As always, any deal that sounds too good to be true probably is just that.
